R Value / U Factor

R Value / U Factor

Insulation materials in concrete block play a major role in determining energy efficiency.

When building a concrete masonry home, measures such as R-Values & U-Factors are used to calculate energy efficiency. R-Values measure heat resistance. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation material’s ability to resist the flow of heat through it (higher is better). U-Factors measure heat transfer. The lower the U-factor, the lower the amount of heat loss, and the better the wall is at insulating the home (lower is better).
